essay 1 humanity 110.
Along with the Stonehenge prompt, here are two more ways to meet your first essay requirement:
1) Heritage – Civilization & the Jews: A People Is Born.
Write a brief summary of the main ideas of the program. Which ancient cultures were discussed, and what were some of the connections between them? How did we learn about them originally, and what ideas from their time might still be relevant in ours? To illustrate your conclusions, you must mention at least three details each places, people, technology, and/or events) from at least two of the cultures discussed.
2) Jean-Francois Champollion. Using the online biographies as principal sources, give a brief, clear summary of the great French scholar’s life (1790-1832), including his professional successess and his connection to Egypt. Then explain how he came to be able to translate hieroglyphs. As part of this, be sure to research and describe the Rosetta Stone, which is discussed in the textbook.
There will be additional options in the next module, but you must choose and respond to one by February 24th.
Format: 3 pages (1000 word count), 1” margins, double-spaced, 10/12 pt. type; on a cover page or in the top left-hand corner, be sure to put your name, my name, our class, and the date. Use an effective structure that carefully guides your reader from one idea to the next, and edit thoroughly so that sentences are readable and appropriate for an academic audience.
Labeling and file protocol: The names of files submitted to the upload portal must be saved as NAME.ASSIGNMENT NUMBER (EX: Sam Jones.Essay 2). This is the name of the file on your computer, NOT the title you might give the essay itself. Students may submit short papers as .pdf, .txt, .rtf, .doc or .docx files; on your word processing program, use the dropdown menu under “Save As” to find these options. Or simply paste text directly into the text field. Either way, if I can’t open it, I can’t grade it, so no Google docs, Pages, Mac-only format, etc.
Files must be in a PC-friendly format; those sent submitted in a different format or without the proper file name will not be accepted and the student will receive a zero for the assignment.
